Backward Area Development Committee of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)

EWI Development Initiative Foundation is now a Committee Member of the Backward Area Development Committee of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). A brief background note of CII on the subject is at http://bit.ly/ewifciibddc

We are grateful for the invitation and inclusion by CII.

Our focus will continue to be on North East India Development harnessing resources from the Western Region for North East Entrepreneurship development. It is our belief that development of entrepreneurship will result in jobs creation, wealth creation and prosperity in the North East.

The districts identified by CII relevant to our work include:

  • Arunachal Pradesh - Upper Subansiri
  • Assam - Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigoan, Cachar, Chirang, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Hailkandi, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Marigaon, North Cachar Hills
  • Manipur - Chandel, Churachandpur & Tamenglong
  • Meghalaya - Ri Bhoi, South Garo Hills, West Garo Hills
  • Mizoram - Lawngtlai, Saiha
  • Nagaland - Kiphrie, Longleng, Mon, Tuensang, Wokha
  • Sikkim - North District

We already have two team members working with us from these areas. Grace Guria is from Chirang & Juliana Chakungliu NK is from Tamenglong.

Alliance proposed with North East Community Organization, Pune

EWI Development Initiative Foundation's Rajiv Bhatia, met with Rock Lungleng of the North East Community Organization, Pune. They discussed the possibilities of forming an alliance to help develop North Eastern entrepreneurs and take forward various development initiatives and start up enterprises in the North East. Rock Lungleng said that there were around 10,000 youngsters, students and working, from the North East in Pune. He believed that many of them would join in the initiative. Ms. Juliana Chakungliu NK, a Naga youngster from Tamenglong District in Manipur, presently studying MA Economics in Pune and an Inter-connector with EWIF, will be in New Delhi for the next few days and will meet Mdoner and others.

Ms. Grace Guria of Chirang District in Assam, and presently at the EWIF office in Pune will relocate to Guwahati next week.

They will both visit North Eastern Council, Nongrim Hills, Shillong mid June 2013.

The prospects of entrepreneurial development in the North East seem exciting and the team looks forward to the program envisaged.
